Ban Mokalan is a large community rich with natural resources, where people have settled along the length of the old sand dunes. The community is spread over the north-south direction with two streams, which are Klong Chum Khling (Klong Ying) and Klong Tong Nang (Klong Mokalan), flowing from the mountains of Nakhon Si Thammarat through the Mokalan community into the Gulf of Thailand. Originally, these two canals were large rivers as traces of sediment and erosion appear whereas nowadays they are quite shallow with the plains on both sides of the abundant canals. The people in the Mokalan community do farming, coconut plantations, rubber plantations, and fruit plantains on the sand dunes. Some of them are also engaged in a pottery business which is the community’s reputation since the old days.
